The trailer's out, the poster's out, and Marvel has minted an entirely new premium format just in time to relieve you of a few extra dollars per ticket. We live in an age of miracles, true believers.

Marvel Studios dropped a new trailer and poster for Avengers: Doomsday today, alongside the launch of "Infinity Vision," a new Premium Large Format certification promising bigger screens, brighter images, and sound loud enough to compete with the sound of Disney's stock ticker. Tickets in the format go on sale today, because nothing sustains a franchise's box office momentum quite like inventing a brand-new theater tier to sell the same movie in.

The Russo Brothers are back for their first Marvel outing since Avengers: Endgame, having reportedly spent their six years away waiting for the "right story" to pull them back in — which, judging by the cast list, mostly just meant waiting until literally everyone who has ever appeared in an MCU-adjacent property was contractually available at the same time. Robert Downey Jr. returns not as Tony Stark but as Doctor Doom, a casting decision that remains the single strangest sentence Marvel has ever asked fans to accept with a straight face, and somehow, we all just... did. That's the trick of this franchise at this point: it doesn't ask permission anymore, it just tells you the plan, and you show up opening weekend anyway.

The cast is enormous in the way only a Marvel team-up can be: Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Wyatt Russell, Channing Tatum, Simu Liu, Ian McKellen, Tom Hiddleston, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, Joseph Quinn, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, Lewis Pullman, Kelsey Grammer, Kathryn Newton, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Alan Cumming, Hannah John-Kamen, Rebecca Romijn, Mabel Cadena, and Tenoch Huerta Mejia.

Somewhere in that pile-up, McKellen and Stewart are sharing a frame with the actual Avengers; the exact crossover fandom has been fan-casting on forums since before some of their current co-stars were even attached to this franchise. Marvel knows this. It has always known this. The studio spent a decade letting that dream simmer online for free, and now it's cashing the check.

Because that's what this is, really: not a plot point, not a narrative swerve, but a business model with a trailer attached. Every threat in this franchise is "existential" and "unlike anything they've ever encountered" until the next one rolls around eighteen months later, equally existential, equally unprecedented. The multiverse was never really about storytelling possibility — it was about never having to say goodbye to an IP that still moves merchandise.

Avengers: Doomsday is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, produced by Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, and Jonathan Schwartz, and opens exclusively in theaters December 18, 2026 — in regular format, IMAX, or, if Marvel's marketing team gets its way, whichever INFINITY VISION theater is closest to your wallet.
