FAST & FURIOUS shifts gears: Four F&F television series announced

The Fast & Furious franchise is shifting gears, with its small-screen debut. After months of fan speculation, Deadline announced that Vin Diesel, who has played Dominic Toretto in the franchise since 2001, confirmed in May that four F&F live-action TV series are in development, with one project in the works at Peacock and three projects in various stages of development at Universal Television. 

"Peacock is launching four shows in the Fast and the Furious universe," Diesel said in an appearance on stage at a NBCUniversal Upfront presentation on the morning of Monday, May 11, 2026, in New York City, New York, where he revealed that a new TV series is in development from the franchise.

Diesel is executive producing via his One Race banner alongside Fast & Furious franchise producer Neal Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film, as well as franchise producers Chris Morgan — who also wrote several of the films — and Jeff Kirschenbaum.

The Peacock series’ pilot will be written by Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman, who have previously collaborated on NBC's Shades of Blue. Daniels also just landed another high-profile series order at NBCUniversal, his take on The Rockford Files.

No further plot details about Peacock's F&F project are being disclosed at this stage.

For Diesel, the move to television represents a years-long change of heart. On stage, he acknowledged being protective of the F&F brand, so much so that he originally turned down doing a sequel to the original film. "Over the last decade, we’ve realized that the fans have wanted more; they wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories," he said. "And for the last decade, the desire has been for us to enter the TV space."

The tipping point, he said, was an organizational shift at the top of NBCUniversal. Diesel credited Universal Studios chief Donna Langley with taking oversight of NBCUniversal’s TV operation last year, as the moment he felt comfortable bringing the franchise to the small screen. "That’s when I knew that the integrity of the characters, the international appeal, what makes us all feel like family, will be protected in the TV space," he said.

The timing of the announcement comes as the Fast & Furious franchise marks its 25th anniversary in 2026, with a special screening of the original film even being shown at the Cannes Film Festival this May. Over the course of eleven films, the franchise has earned more than $7 billion at the worldwide box office. The final chapter, Fast Forever, is set for release on March 17, 2028.

Diesel, Moritz, and Morgan also executive produce a separate animated Fast & Furious series at Netflix, produced by DreamWorks Animation.
