GAAAT Brings GINTAMA to Los Angeles limited-edition metal canvas exhibition

Fans of Gintama will get a rare chance to see the beloved sci-fi action-comedy reimagined as physical fine art when GAAAT opens its officially licensed exhibition at Exhibit A Gallery in Los Angeles this month, per a press release on the gallery's official website.

Running July 24–28, 2026, from noon to 6 p.m. daily, the LA Gintama art show marks the latest stop for GAAAT, an art brand that specializes in translating anime and manga IP into gallery-grade pieces using proprietary metal-canvas printing technology. The exhibition is officially licensed by TV Tokyo and follows a prior run in Chicago.

At the center of the show is what GAAAT calls “Metal Canvas Art,” a technique that stacks up to 32 digital design layers onto a durable metal base, building physical relief up to 1mm deep. The result, according to the gallery, is artwork that shifts in texture and color depending on the viewing angle, achieved through multi-layer UV coating and what the brand describes as proprietary data-design work. Nineteen MCA pieces will be on view and available for purchase, each numbered and released in limited quantities.

The collection spans three distinct series: Foil Art pairs traditional Japanese gold and platinum leaf with Gintama imagery — including a one-of-one Gintoki Sakata piece rendered in platinum. Converge Art, described as GAAAT's signature technique, compresses hundreds of scenes from the series into single large-format works, capped at a worldwide edition of 10. And Character Art offers pop-style portraits of fan-favorite figures like Sadaharu, produced in editions of 20.

Beyond the artwork, the gallery will stock exclusive on-site merchandise available only for the run of the show, which will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Admission is free, and visitors who reserve ahead of time will receive a complimentary postcard.

Gintama is a Japanese manga created by Hideaki Sorachi, which has since became a long-running and beloved anime adaptation. Set in Japan in an alternate-history Edo period, which has been conquered by alien invaders, who've banned samurai from carrying swords. The series follows Gintoki Sakata, a lazy, sweets-obsessed former samurai who now runs an odd-jobs business with his ragtag crew, Shinpachi Shimura and Kagura. What makes Gintama so distinctive is its tonal whiplash—it can pivot from absurdist, fourth-wall-breaking comedy and parody of other anime/manga to genuinely gut-punching arcs about loyalty, loss, and the death of the samurai era, sometimes within the same episode.

The timing of Exhibit A Gallery exhibition lines up with a broader resurgence for the franchise. Gintama the Movie 2026: Yoshiwara in Flames hit theaters in February (the series's first film in five years) and Gintama has also announced a new spin-off anime, Gintama – Mr. Ginpachi's Zany Class, as part of its 20th-anniversary celebrations. Since debuting in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2003, the 77-volume manga has sold more than 73 million copies worldwide and spawned an anime that ran from 2006 to 2018 alongside four theatrical films.
