Marvel has a new digital comics home, and WEBTOON built it. The new Marvel Comics app launches November 16, 2026, on mobile and web, with more than 35,000 comics from Marvel, Star Wars, and 20th Century Studios in one place.

WEBTOON Entertainment developed the app from "the ground up," according to the press release, and "will support both traditional page-based comics and vertical-scroll formats."

Yongsoo Kim, President of WEBTOON Entertainment, said in the press release, "The Marvel Comics app represents a new chapter in helping fans connect with the stories they love. By combining WEBTOON's expertise in building digital comics platforms with Marvel’s unparalleled storytelling legacy, we're making it easier for longtime fans and new readers alike to explore Marvel’s universe and discover their next favorite story."

David Abdo, General Manager, Marvel Comics and Franchise, added, “We’re excited to partner with WEBTOON, industry leaders in the space, to create a new app that can continue to grow and evolve with the way readers discover and experience comics.”

What are the new features of the Marvel Comics app?

Key features of the WEBTOON Marvel Comics app include:

  • Available on mobile and web

  • Cover-scroll browsing, so thousands of titles are scannable at a glance

  • Personalized recommendations, tuned to your reading history

  • Character and creator pages: follow a run or a writer across arcs

  • A customizable "Pull List," which surfaces, as soon as available, new issues from the series, characters, and creators on your "Pull List"

  • Updated smart panel features, "for easier reading"

  • New issues available "as early as 1 month after print" to "Ultimate" tier subscribers

  • New issues available "as soon as 3 months after print" to "Base" tier subscribers

How much does the Marvel Comics app cost?

The WEBTOON-powered, Marvel-fueled digital comics e-reader has two subscription tiers, both with access to the full Marvel Comics app digital library. The Base tier, at $9.99/month (plus tax) or $69.99/year (plus tax), gives the reader access to the latest issues three months after print. The Ultimate tier, which costs $12.49/month (plus tax) or $99.99/year (plus tax), and "gives access to new comics as soon as 1 month after their print release."

A limited-time, "founding member" price of $59.99 is currently available for the first year of the Ultimate Annual tier subscription at WEBTOON's NYCC booth and marvel.webtoon.com. (Note: After year one, it auto-renews at $99.99 until canceled.)

When does the Marvel Comics app launch?

The Marvel WEBTOON app officially launches on November 16, 2026.

However, fans who are traveling to the Javitz Center in New York City, New York, this weekend to revel in all the NYCC festivities can stop by the WEBTOON booth for a first look at the brand-new Marvel digital comics app. The new Marvel Comics app will make its debut at New York Comic Con, taking place October 8–11, 2026, with a demo available at Booth #2435, where attendees will be able to check out the beta version of the new WEBTOON Marvel app.

Additionally, the first 2,000 fans to claim it at NYCC get a limited-edition Marvel Comics print ID card.

Marvel Comics vs. Marvel Unlimited

First things first, let's get the important information out of the way. If you're concerned about whether you'll still be able to access previous Marvel Unlimited purchases, the answer is, "Yes!" According to the press release, readers will be able to transfer their reading history to the WEBTOON Marvel digital comics app from Marvel Unlimited.

Clearly, Marvel Unlimited itself now has an expiration date. Marvel stopped accepting new Unlimited subscriptions as of today, October 5, 2026, with existing subscribers being given complimentary access through December 7, 2026. The old app will remain available for library browsing for a limited period before being fully sunset.

How does this newest Marvel digital comics app fit into the history of Marvel's webcomics strategy?

Over the years, Marvel's digital comics library has been hosted by numerous platforms. In 1996, Marvel first ventured into the digital comics space with CyberComics, pivoting in 2007 to Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited and again in 2011 to a digital redemption code system. Next, the publisher moved to the Comixology-run Marvel app, which shut down on June 2, 2023, after layoffs at the Amazon subsidiary, which impacted up to 75% of the staff then employed.

The Marvel app was the last digital reader still running on the old ComiXology software, and purchases moved over to Marvel Unlimited, at which point MU became the publisher's primary digital comics subscription service. Initially launched in 2007, MU evolved into a catalog of more than 30,000 comics, spanning decades of Marvel Comics history, and it was more than an archive: the company used the Unlimited platform as a laboratory for inspired digital-first storytelling, creator-curated reading guides, and, most notably, its original "Infinity Comics" titles, which were vertical-scroll stories designed specifically for phones and tablets.

Thus, via Marvel Unlimited, Marvel has already been playing with the format popularized by WEBTOON for a while. For example, the series Eternals: The 500-Year War initially debuted on MU on January 12, 2022, then landed on WEBTOON on January 20, 2022. Marvel described it as a seven-part Infinity Comics series created by an international team, making the project an early test of the format and of the relationship between Marvel's subscription service and WEBTOON's vertical-scroll audience. The Infinity Comics have grown alongside the app, and, at one point, Marvel Unlimited published 350 original stories in a year.

The current partnership started with a licensing deal in August 2025, when WEBTOON and Disney announced around 100 comics bound for the vertical-scroll app, launching with Amazing Spider-Man, Avengers, Star Wars, and Alien. Almost a year later, in September 2026, came the real play: rumors started to swirl of a non-binding term sheet for an all-new platform, built and operated by WEBTOON, pitched as an expansion of Marvel Unlimited, which would offer 35,000+ titles across the Disney catalogues in a single subscription.
