Nitrate Games brought the first public gameplay of Jay and Silent Bob's Joint Venture to New York Comic Con 2026 on Thursday, October 8, and Kevin Smith showed up to watch his stoner duo get planted in the dirt. The panel debuted new gameplay, character details, and a full trailer for the "mature cozy farm sim."

The raunchy spin on the cozy farming genre is a canonical sequel to the View Askewniverse, and it's coming to Steam in late spring 2027. The gameplay will include the crops (a.k.a. marijuana) that match Jay and Silent Bob's very specific cultural tastes. Players build, cultivate, and expand their operation while hanging out with familiar faces from the films.

This isn't a side-story cash-in, though. Nitrate co-founder Montana Sommese says the game "picks up where the films left off," making it a sequel to the View Askewniverse. And narrative updates will keep extending Smith's universe after launch. Jason Mewes and Smith have both been involved from the start.

The reveal includes a deep cast of Smith's characters:

  • Clerks: Dante, Randal, and Veronica

  • Mallrats: Brodie and T.S. Quint

  • Chasing Amy: Holden, Banky, Hooper, and Alyssa

  • Dogma: Azrael and Serendipity

  • Clerks II: Becky and Elias

  • And, of course, Mooby

Ernie Altbacker, whose credits include Batman: Hush and Justice League Dark, is writing the game.

Joint Venture is heading into playtesting now. It's slated for Steam/PC in late spring 2027, with a console release also planned for 2027. Fans can watch the trailer on YouTube and sign up to playtest and wishlist at the game's sign-up page.

Nitrate is also making a larger play. The Los Angeles- and Philadelphia-based publisher has six titles in development.

Kendrick, who previously ran IDW Entertainment, says the company is working with film and TV brands from the '80s, '90s, and early 2000s, plus Nitrate originals, alongside directors, screenwriters, and showrunners. He compares the strategy to the indie comics wave of Dark Horse, Image, and IDW: "We bring comic book sensibilities and strategies to indie games."
