Star Trek fans have had a rough year, with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy both heading into their final seasons and nothing new on the docket, the franchise is entering its 60th anniversary with more nostalgia than new content. But hardcore Trekkies and history buffs now have something to celebrate: The Nacelle Company has announced (via a Collider exclusive) the return of the documentary series, The Center Seat, which is officially back after a five-year absence. Announced during Star Trek: Las Vegas, a first trailer and key art for The Center Seat II: 60 Years of Star Trek have now arrived.

Produced by Nacelle, the original Center Seat premiered in 2021 to mark Star Trek’s 55th anniversary, spending eleven episodes tracing the franchise from Star Trek: The Original Series through Star Trek: The Animated Series, the aborted Star Trek: Phase II revival, the film era, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and the UPN years of Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise.

The Center Seat II moves the story forward, digging into the bumpy handoff from the six TOS films to the four movies built around the TNG crew — starting with Star Trek: Generations, the divisive team-up of Captains Kirk (William Shatner) and Picard (Patrick Stewart) that ended with Kirk’s death.

The new season will also cover J.J. Abrams’s Kelvin Timeline films, which rebooted Trek’s continuity and pushed the franchise to new box-office heights. Narration duties once again fall to TNG’s Gates McFadden, and the interview roster is stacked, including Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, James Cromwell, Malcolm McDowell, Alice Krige, Wil Wheaton, Bryan Fuller, Rick Berman, Ron D. Moore, Brannon Braga, and more, alongside F. Murray Abraham, Alan Ruck, Walter Koenig, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deep Roy, Tim Russ, Michael Westmore, Jeri Taylor, and Doug Drexler.

The Center Seat II: 60 Years of Star Trek premieres September 8, 2026, — designated as “Star Trek Day” in honor of the franchise’s 1966 broadcast debut — on Prime Video, Tubi, and YouTube.
