Anime NYC '26: Dark Horse Manga announces three new releases, including its first-ever VAMPIRE HUNTER D comic

Dark Horse Comics used its Anime NYC 2026 panel at the Javits Center on Friday, August 21, 2026, to unveil three new titles for manga fans—two manga volumes and, notably, the publisher's first-ever original comic series set in the Vampire Hunter D universe.

The headliner is Vampire Hunter D: Fortress of Blood, a four-issue miniseries breaking from the franchise's usual manga-adaptation format to tell an original story in single-issue comic form. Alongside it, Dark Horse confirmed a new manga volume continuing Hideyuki Kikuchi's Vampire Hunter D prose series, plus a fresh entry in Gou Tanabe's ongoing run of H.P. Lovecraft adaptations.

Vampire Hunter D: Fortress of Blood, 1 (of 4)

The first-ever comic series set in the Vampire Hunter D world pits the iconic hunter against a vampire lord razing human settlements on his way to the next city. A crumbling fortress—and the family of outcasts holed up inside it—stands in his path, buying time for civilians to flee.
