Kaiju season is coming to the drive-thru. McDonald’s confirmed a Happy Meal collaboration pairing Sanrio’s Hello Kitty with Toho’s Godzilla, set to launch August 18.
The chain teased the crossover with a short clip of a Happy Meal box sailing a toy boat across open water — only for a colossal kaiju to rise up behind it. That kaiju turns out to be Hello Kitty herself, decked out in a Godzilla-style headpiece and spikes.

McDonald’s Senior Marketing Director Guillaume Huin broke the news on August 10, calling the toy lineup one of the strongest Happy Meal collections he’s seen and predicting hall-of-fame status for the collectibles. He confirmed the promotion is US-bound, though the full toy lineup and which other Toho monsters might join Godzilla in the mix remain under wraps.
The pairing continues a hot streak for McDonald’s pop-culture tie-ins, following recent Happy Meal takeovers built around Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 and KPop Demon Hunters. It also lands with convenient timing: Godzilla stomps back into theaters this November with Godzilla Minus Zero.
No word yet on menu items tied to the promotion or a full toy checklist — more details are expected as the August 18 launch approaches.
