SPX ‘26: Caroline Cash drops surprise self-published NANCY comic

Caroline Cash isn't waiting for the newspaper page to have her fun with Nancy: she's bringing 24 pages of the adorably meta tot straight to Small Press Expo 2026.

The Eisner- and Ignatz-winning cartoonist, who took over the century-old Nancy comic strip from the pseudonymous Olivia Jaimes at the start of 2026, announced via Instagram (@cash_browns) a brand-new, 24-page self-published Nancy comic dropping this weekend at SPX in Bethesda, Maryland. The cover art alone tells you what you're getting: a spike-jacketed, sunglasses-wearing, bow-in-her-hair Nancy — knife holstered, chain-belted, and leather clad.

"SURPRISE!!!!" Cash wrote in the post, calling it a "new self published 'NANCY' comic" with "classic black and white risograph" printing courtesy of @andyalexandy. Stock is limited, and the back cover reportedly carries a quote from "the elusive Olivia Jaimes" herself — a nice bit of torch-passing between the strip's two most recent stewards, given that Jaimes handed Cash the reins after an eight-year run that helped bring Nancy back into the cultural conversation.

Cash is no stranger to bending Nancy Bushmiller's century-old creation into new shapes. Beyond her Eisner-winning autobio series PeePee PooPoo, she guest-drew the strip during one of Jaimes's sabbaticals in 2024 before officially inheriting the gig this January, a moment she's called a "dream come true." This weekend's minicomic looks like the id version of that dream: a DIY, small-press love letter to the character running parallel to her syndicated day job.

SPX 2026 runs September 12–13, 2026, at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. Given the limited print run and Cash's rising profile, expect this one to move fast — and to be a hot item on the secondary market for anyone who misses it in person.
