NYCC ‘26: CAPTAIN MARVEL gets a new ongoing from G. Willow Wilson and Rachael Stott
Marvel Comics is sending Carol Danvers back into the sky—and handing the controls to two of its most acclaimed creators. At New York Comic Con 2026, newly appointed Editor-in-Chief Stephen Wacker used his first-ever “Bullpen Bulletins!” panel to announce a new ongoing Captain Marvel series from writer G. Willow Wilson (Ms. Marvel, Black Cat) and artist Rachael Stott (Fantastic Four), launching in May 2027.
The series spins out of the upcoming Avengers run by Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto. In the wake of Avengers: Armageddon, Carol finds herself grounded like never before. To rise again, she'll have to challenge everything she thought she knew about being Captain Marvel, and break every rule along the way. Meanwhile, a threat that's been quietly assembling in the shadows of the Marvel Universe for decades is finally ready to make its move.
For Wilson, it's a homecoming. In a video message, she said she's "so excited to be returning to these characters who I love so much, these readers who I love so much, and to be taking Carol on her next big adventure." Her rallying cry? "So chin up, put your boots on. We're going back up!"

It's also a reunion with a history. Wacker was one of the editors who co-created Kamala Khan with Wilson, through a conversation between him and Sana Amanat that sparked the 2014 Ms. Marvel series. Now, with the keys to Captain Marvel in Wilson's hands and Wacker running the Bullpen, the band is getting back together—this time with the hero who inspired Kamala in the first place.
Stott, for her part, was equally giddy, saying that she’s “so unbelievably thrilled to not only be working with one of my favorite writers, the amazing G. Willow Wilson, but also one of my absolute favorite characters." She added that landing the gig has her convinced that "in a previous life you saved a busload of orphans from an escaped tiger."
Stott also supplied the promo image for the series, which shows a grinning Carol in aviator goggles, mid-flight, with a thumbs-up and a tagline that says it all: BACK TO WORK.
Captain Marvel #1, written by Wilson with art by Stott, hits stands in May 2027. More details are coming in the months ahead.
