NYCC '26: MARVEL ZOMBIES renewed, with a two-part special event premiering Halloween 2027
The apocalypse isn't over, and it's going to be an annual tradition now. Marvel Animation is bringing Marvel Zombies back for three more two-part special events, with the first arriving on Halloween 2027. Brad Winderbaum, Head of Marvel Television, Animation and Comics, made the announcement yesterday at New York Comic Con 2026 during the Marvel Television and Marvel Animation panel.
The lineup runs three Halloweens straight:
Marvel Zombies: Winter Soldier — Halloween 2027
Marvel Zombies: Fist of Khonshu — Halloween 2028
Marvel Zombies: The Last Guardian — Halloween 2029
That's Bucky Barnes, Moon Knight, and a Guardian with a final stand to make, each getting their own spooky-season event. (The titles point that way, anyway. Marvel hasn't released plot details, casting, or release platforms for the specials.)
So, what is Marvel Zombies?

The four-part animated series arrived on Disney+ on September 24, 2025, and was Marvel Animation's first TV-MA project. It spun directly out of the What If…? episode that introduced the MCU's zombie apocalypse — and that's a bloodline with deep comics roots, since the Marvel Zombies franchise began in the Ultimate universe of Marvel Comics.
The synopsis: after the Avengers fall to a zombie plague, a desperate band of survivors hunts for the key to ending the super-powered undead, racing across a dystopian landscape to save their world. The voice cast reunited a wave of MCU talent, including Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Simu Liu, Hailee Steinfeld, Iman Vellani, and Dominique Thorne. Bryan Andrews directed, and Zeb Wells wrote the scripts, and all four episodes dropped at once.
The renewal was one of several announcements at the panel, which also included a surprise screening of Episode 1 of VisionQuest, the new series debuting October 14, 2026, on Disney+.
