Independent publisher Nitrate Games is stepping into IP development and digital publishing with the announcement of Jay and Silent Bob’s Joint Venture, an “adult cozy farm sim” where fans play as Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes’s cult-favorite stoner characters. The reveal came during Smith’s annual Saturday night Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, and both Smith and Mewes have been involved in the game’s development.

The game reimagines the cozy farming genre through a distinctly raunchier lens — think familiar crop-cultivation gameplay, but tuned to Jay and Silent Bob’s particular tastes. Now heading into beta testing, Joint Venture is slated for a late Spring 2027 release on Steam/PC. Players will build and expand their own operation, interact with familiar faces from the Jay and Silent Bob universe, and work through an original story featuring Smith’s iconic characters.
“Since Jay and Silent Bob are the stars of this hilarious growing game, I cannot wait to play with myself!” Smith said. “Many thanks to Nitrate Games for taking my little animals to this crossing and making them Stars Dew a Valley!”
Nitrate Games was co-founded by Daniel Kendrick, Montana Sommese, and Nick Madonna. Kendrick previously ran IDW Entertainment, working across film and game properties including Locke & Key, Wynonna Earp, 30 Days of Night, Godzilla, and Sonic the Hedgehog, and served as co-executive producer on last year’s Batman Azteca for Warner Bros. Animation. Meanwhile, Sommese brings more than 15 years at the intersection of Hollywood and gaming, adapting major IP for Warner Bros. and Fox. Madonna, Nitrate’s Head of Development, has more than 20 years of experience with Saber Interactive, Square Enix, and Vivendi Universal, and also runs PHL Collective, which has delivered licensed titles for Star Wars, Justice League, and SpongeBob SquarePants.
The studio’s guiding philosophy applies comic-book sensibilities to indie game development, leaning into niche licenses and cult classics, from Smith’s Jay & Silent Bob to 1978’s Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. More titles are reportedly on the way.
“Our core mission is to make games that we wish existed when we were kids,” said Kendrick. “We’re an independent game publisher with an eye toward creating unexpected takes on unique, beloved properties.”
Chase Marotz, whose credits include work on Star Trek and Dungeons & Dragons for IDW Publishing and a run as Lead Narrative Director at Gameloft New York, serves as creative director on Joint Venture. Writer Ernie Altbacker, known for Batman: Hush and Justice League Dark, is scripting the game, with both Smith and Mewes involved in shaping the creative vision from the outset.
“We set out to build Nitrate Games as the pop culture company of the future,” Kendrick said. “Audiences want to step inside the worlds they love; to emotionally engage with them, change them, break the fourth wall. That’s why Montana, Nick and I built Nitrate Games: to be the indie publisher where beloved and new brands become something you don’t just watch, but live.”
